Flush The Bloody Toilet!

The 10 year old has been toilet trained for the past seven years, give or take a few months.

For some obscure reason he finds it impossible to remember to flush the toilet.  Or to lift the seat and wash his hands.  It drives me nuts!

I know it's not for effort on my part.  I spend a good part of my day re-directing him back to the bathroom to wipe the seat, flush the toilet and wash his hands. I'm like the toilet police.
Surely it should be like second nature by now? You do something enough you don't even think of doing it, it just happens. Muscle memory. I've driven home from the in-laws or sometimes and have no recollection of the actual journey. I could do it blindfolded.

So why, oh why, can't he flush the bloody toilet!?

I was wondering if I was the only one, but it seems not! Maybe they start doing it as adults?

  2. But how hard is it? Does he do it when visiting other people's houses? It's mortifying!

  3. We spend our entire lives repeating the same phrase to my daughter, flush, hands door, light! It is sooo annoying.

I think girls have far less problems. My 5yo is much better than the 10yo!

Oh no! I may have this for at least another 5 years! I always drag him back to the bathroom to clear up so maybe it's going to be who gets worn down first?

  6. I thankfully don't have this problem with my husband - he's well trained - and my son is too young to use the loo. But toilet training looms in a year or so which I'm not looking forward to! Ha!

When they're little they aren't so bad as they sit down. It's once they start standing. Goodbye nice bathroom, hello pee.

  7. Not having kids at home, I find it highly entertaining when my 11 year old nephew arrives and leaves the seat up - I always drag him back to correct it and he knows as soon as I call his name from the bathroom what he has done, its like its a genetic mutation in boys to NEVER be able to retain that muscle memory!

At least you have that break, my poor bathroom is being abused day in, day out! Thank God he's at school most of the day. He'll soon stop leaving the seat up once he's dropped his mobile phone down there :0P
